Remember when I mentioned how I'm redoing our living room? Well I am having such a blast searching for awesome, unique art on the Internet. 

Maybe my new favorite past time. 

Probably more like an addiction.

The most recent piece I got was this bad ass Ferris Buehler's Day Off print.

Seriously. Do you love it? Because I love it.

It's from the Jimbeanus shop on Etsy, which is just loaded with awesome recreations of famous movie scenes. Jim Ferguson, the artist, has mixed his passion for art and movies seamlessly.

Retro Style Sports Art GIVEAWAY!!

Now that I work from home, I spend A LOT of time in our living room. Like a really gross amount of time. And I have come to realize that I HATE this room! 
When we first redid this room after moving in, our taste were drastically different than they are now. So what we have are 3 walls painted a tan color, and the other a really deep red. And all of our furniture is dark dark dark! And the saddest part? We make a living as artist, but have a total of 3 pieces of framed artwork in our entire living room. 
Sad. 

So I have decided it is time to fix this depressing room into something bright and cheerful, a place that I enjoy spending my days and a space that inspires me to do my best work. Because all our current living room inspires is naps.

So for my first project, after painting the room white, is to create a gallery wall of art that reflects on us as individuals, and as a family. I have been scouring Etsy (which is just bad news if you have anything else you're supposed to be doing in the next 10 hours) and have found so many great things!

We got our first piece in the mail yesterday, and while it is definitely a Richard thing, I love it!

We got this awesome New York Rangers retro eye-chart from Retro League, and I think it's going to make such a cool addition to our gallery wall! 

The Rangers are Richard's favorite hockey team, so I knew I wanted to include something to do with them or hockey. But when I started searching, everything was just too obvious, if you know what I mean. I didn't want a picture of a hockey player, or a huge Rangers logo, but something that was artistic on it's own.

They have so many retro style sports artworks to choose from! And they are the perfect gift for the men in your life.

But for serious, where did 2012 go?? 

Like I blinked and missed the whole thing.

It was a pretty good year, as far as years go.

We added a new little chunk to our family.

Our biggest little turned 4, and is like a legit person now.

We expanded our online business, and realized that our part time craft business could possibly, maybe, really be a full time business.

Which leads me to why 2013 is going to be the best, weirdest, most stressful but wonderful year.

Because I. Quit. My. Day Job!

Are you excited, because I'm super excited. But nervous. Sometimes when I think about it I want to throw up.

But I did it. I turned in my letter of resignation, and said see ya later, bitches! But not really, because I'm nice. So I told them I'll stay till they find a replacement for me (impossible, I know).

But the feeling of knowing that in a matter of weeks I will be out of the office and home, with my littlest little, focusing on the things that I love, is ah-mah-zing.

So fingers crossed that I

a) actually like/can handle being a work at home mom. I've never cussed out a baby, but then again I've never spent every waking minute with one, so....

b) Can actually pull this off. I mean, what if it was a fluke? What if everyone stops buying our stuff, and then we are poor, and then we have to sell our pets and possibly one (or more) of our children just to pay our bills?

Just kidding. 

I'm dreaming big here people!! And in celebration:

BIOGRAPHY

Charlotte Mann is an artist known for her large life-sized drawings. She was born in London where she currently lives and works. She graduated from Central St Martin's Fashion Design Women's wear BA in 2000, and worked in the various fields of fashion design, styling, and illustration, before focusing on her artwork.
She worked for Russell Sage, designing and producing show pieces (including a dress made from real bank notes, now archived in the V&A, and pieces made with antique animal skins, which were featured in an exhibition at the Metropollitan Museum of Art in New York). She also designed for, amongst others: Laura Ashley, Kickers and Okini, and she was the costume designer and stylist for Eddie Izzard's Sexie tour.
The shift to the art work she is currently involved in came in september 2006 when she created the 30 meter long densely detailed hand drawn back drop for Peter Jensen's Spring/Summer 2007 show. since then she has created pieces for a number of different clients including India Knight, The School Of Life and B-Store.
Charlotte had been teaching for the University Of The Arts since 2001, she is an Associate Lecturer at St Martin's, Chelsea School of Art and Camberwell College of Art, and curates the Camberwell Foundation Film program, at the Vue Cinema Leicester Square, attracting guests such as Mike Leigh, Lynne Ramsay and Bruno Dumont. She also teaches at The Prince's Drawing School.

Cardboard Ring Frames

I think this idea from Photojojo is so clever and cute!

What a neat way to display your photos in a circular fashion, and they are super easy to make. And they are helping the environment, since you'll be throwing out a few less paper towel rolls!

To start, just save up any different sized cardboard rolls (such as paper towels, oatmeal canisters, and wrapping paper). Mark and cut the rolls into varying thicknesses, then use the cut rolls to trace out the circles on your photos.

Cut the photos out and attach using a thin bead of glue along the rim of the cardboard. Glue some to the front, and some to the back to give a different look to your assortment of photos.

Use a few pushpins or nails to hang the rings from, and voila! Instant art!
