Hey Soul Sister!

Friendship is an interesting thing. There are times when friendship is based on neccesity, and times when it's out of your control. Some friends are forced, while others fit like your worn in Chucks. In preschool, your friends are the kids who are fun to play in the sandbox with and who don't hog the sidewalk chalk. When I was in kindergarten my best friend was a boy named Tim.
He was the Batman to my Superman...
It wasn't weird or awkward to have a boy best friend. There wasn't any underlying sexual tensions. It was just me, Tim, and 4-square. Rockin it playground style. Years later Tim would become my next door neighbor. We were still friends, but Tim had since gotten hormones, and instead of water gun fights he wanted to hold my hand. Gross.
In middle school I was torn between 2 groups of girls. One group was some of the "unconventional" girls. They did their own thing, and didn't care what anyone thought. They weren't into boys. They didn't care about make-up. We liked to stay up late and listen to Hall & Oates and talk about the future(the real future, not the "so-and-so is too dreamy and one day we'll get married and have kids" future). The other group was "The" group. The popular girls who at 14 were already dating, smoking, drinking, and doing other things that is generally frowned upon in middle school. I managed to be friends with both groups, trading my time back and forth, letting each of them bask in the glow of my awesomeness. But when high school hit, all of a sudden there were rules. you couldn't be friends with everybody. You had to make choices, form your clique, or else face social suicide. Looking back I will forever regret dropping my truer friends for a group of girls who may or may not have only loved me for my pretty face and ability to drop it like its hot. Yea, I'm a bad ass dancer. Had I remained true to my other girls I probably wouldn't have been homecoming queen, but I probably also wouldn't have seen the backseat of quite as many cars.
But whatever, I'm rambling.
What I'm getting at is that the blog friend world is reminisent of the preschool friend world, in the sense that you find friends naturally, organically, without effort or pretense.

The friends that I've made in this crazy online blogosphere have just happened, and its nice that way.  So to all my bloggy home skillets, have a FANTASTIC weekend, and I really appreciate you being my friend!
You're so gangsta, I'm so thug...

Aww, this is such a great post! I totally agree about the blog friends happening naturally.

Ooh, I had that problem too. Well, two actually. One is my still long-time good friend, I've known since we were 5. 12 years later he told me he had a crush on me for the last 6 years, and that he was, "like, in love with" me... Most awkward drive to Walmart ever. But it's okay, we both got over it :p.

Then the other.. we hung out a lot and then people started getting all "are you two like, dating?" Yes, in 5th grade, thanks for asking.. But no, I was strictly against that - SO did not see him that way. He claimed to be the same way. Until his grungy mitts found his way to my @$$ in his pool twice one summer. And that was the end of that :p

Lol, you are right about having to choose and sometimes it's not the absolute right choice, but whatever, so what? You become the person you are and move on. It's all ya can do:)

My 1st best friend was my neighbor, Allen. Those were good times:)

Bloggy friends are great and I like how you describe the relationship. Bloggers are cool like that.

Later home slice lol:)

It's hard to maintain a best frienship with a guy because inevitably everyone suspects you are lovers or cheating if both have respective partners. I had a guy best friend in high school but his gf was always suspicious about us. Well he died from a brain tumor but after him, there was no other. Oh another thing and it's so cliche but true friends are very hard to come by. You get to know your friends when you need them the most.

the blog friend thing is rad! and you are one of the best.

i remember when my best friend CHRISTINA GOULART ditched me to hang out with the pretty stoner chicks in junior high. i was heartbroken, and i was most decidedly NOT invited to join their group. it is probably for the best, as i might have turned out to be a pregnant hooker if hung out with those ladies. :)

I LOVE this post on every level possible!

My daughter is 13 and going thru all of the ups and downs of the social ladder right now. It's funny how so much has changed with time, yet it's all really the same. I look at her like a young me and try to guide her...well as much as any 13 year old lets their mom guide them...but whatev..I do what I can!

my best friend in first grade was a black girl. to be honest, i don't remember much about her but her face will be forever embedded in my brain. she had the warmest, friendliest smile. because i was latin, my school forced me to be in a bilingual class. i didn't even speak spanish. when i changed classes, i lost touch with my best friend. i think i balled my eyes out.

i love this post, tia. i agree in some ways what you say about blog friendships. i've made some awesome friendships. but i also disagree. i had a little experience that was more reminiscent to my high school days. lucky for me, i cut that bitch out with the quickness and yes she was someone i met in the blog world.

there really are so many awesome people out there, new blog friends always rock! I've had my same best friend since we were 10, and I love her to a gazillion million tiny pieces and would do anything for her. In pre-school and kindergarten I had twin boys as my best friends, they were a few years older and we were neighbors. fab friends for life for sure!! lovely post! hope you had a nice weekend!

My gosh. Reading this post reminds me why I love 30. Highschool drama over. I cringe at the thought of what it'll be like when my own girls get there!
